Sullivan last incumbent standing

Pulaski County voters are wanting change and they proved that during the primary election.
As the numbers were tallied, voters made it clear that change is in the future.
Locally, incumbent commissioners Larry Brady and Terry Young were beaten by opponents, leaving incumbent county council at-large Jay Sullivan Jr. as the lone incumbent candidate.
As a county, unofficial results indicate 3,934 voters visited one of five voting centers. That is 41.23 percent of voter turnout. The higher percent of voters, compared to 2014 when 32 percent of registered voters visited the polls, may have been because of the heated presidential or local races.
In Pulaski County there were several Republican contested races including auditor, commissioner District 1, commissioner District 2 and council members at-large.
For auditor, Republican voters chose Laura Wheeler for the general election ballot, beating JoLynn Behny. Wheeler received 67.22 percent (1,833) of the votes, while Behny received 32.78 percent (894) of the votes.
The Republican commissioner District 1 race was close between Kenneth Dunn (27.06 percent or 738 votes) and Young (27.69 percent or 755 votes), but Jerry Locke came out on top with 45.25 percent of the votes (1,234). Locke will face Democrat Derrick Stalbaum in November. Stalbaum, who was unopposed, received 669 votes.
In the Republican commissioner District 2 race, Kenny Becker received 65.34 percent (1,842) of the votes, while Brady received 34.66 percent (977) of the votes.
The difference between two of the races for the Republican council member at-large seat was a difference of 34 votes. The top three candidates were Scott Hinkle who received 27.25 percent (1,738) of the votes, Sullivan who received 23.08 percent (1,472) of the votes, and Kenneth Boswell who received 18.05 percent (1,151) of the votes. John Haley was a close fourth to Boswell. Haley earned 17.52 percent (1,117) of the votes. Brain Young received 14.10 percent (899) of the votes.
Although Republican Sue Fox and Democrat Shelia Garling were unopposed for the county recorder seat they will face each other in the general election. Each received 100 percent of the votes from their party.
