Sheriff defends raise for sheriff’s office employees
Pulaski County Sheriff Jeff Richwine voiced his frustration towards the county council as he defended why the employees of the sheriff’s office deserve a raise during a county council meeting on Dec. 14.
“To say that I am disappointed is an understatement. I have been in front of you six times now trying to get this thing through,” Richwine said. “The rest of the county I didn’t represent it for them because I don’t represent them.”
He’s frustrated because earlier in the meeting, he heard it could take another six months before the council will address the issue again.
Council president Jay Sullivan said the council is looking at a long-term solution instead of just cutting a couple of vehicles from the budget and allowing the raise this year. It doesn’t cover the cost the following year.
Sullivan suggested having a special session to discuss all the numbers, concerns and how it will be implemented every year.
