Locals are falling victim to a property records convenience due to a letter that is causing a stir.

Property records don’t cost much, convenience does

Pulaski County residents may soon be receiving a letter regarding local records and how to obtain them.
The letter appears to look official as if from a government agency but it is not and one local resident has already fallen for the deception. The letter is from an Indianapolis company and offers property owners a chance to obtain a property profile and a copy of the property deed for $89.
It clearly states on the letter that the service is to obtain a copy of the deed and is not associated with an governmental agency. It also states that a copy of the deed or other record regarding a title can be obtained from the county recorder’s office.
Property owners can obtain a copy of their deeds for $1 per page and the average deed is about three pages long.
The letter has a date to respond by and some residents may receive a second letter. Property owners are not required by law to have a copy of their property deed.
Local residents are warned to read the whole letter before accepting the offer of the company.
