One Francesville man dies, one injured in house fire

A house fire in Francesville claimed the life of one man and caused injuries to another on June 9.
One resident of the two-story home was able to escape the fire with injuries to the feet. The 65-year-old man was transported to the hospital and later taken to a second hospital.
A second occupant, 65 years old, was found deceased in the home. His body was removed from the home by the Starke County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy of the victim was completed on June 10.
The name of the victim has not been officially released due to police wanting positive identification of the victim and notifying the family.
Francesville Volunteer Firefighters were notified of the fire at 1:51 a.m. at 203 W. Yellow Street in Francesville. Firefighters arrived at the scene to find the southeast portion of the house was engulfed in flames.
Francesville Fire Chief Lance Gutwein said firefighters were alerted that someone could still be in the house but were unable to conduct a search and rescue because of exploding oxygen tanks.
The fire has been classified as undetermined although an electrical issue could not be ruled out as the cause of the fire that happened in the living room on the south side of the home.
As of June 10, the investigation by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office is ongoing.
Those who also responded to the fire include the Medaryville Volunteer Fire Department, Pulaski County EMS, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office and Francesville Town Marshal Doug Lee.
No other injuries were reported at the time of the fire.
