Medaryville council approves ordinance prohibiting livestock in town limits

Medaryville Town Council members faced a room full of residents as they approved the ordinance that forbids livestock in the town limits.
During a meeting on May 25, the council approved Ordinance 2016-05-01 regarding keeping of livestock within town limits forbidden. The council has worked on the ordinance and during the April 20 meeting the council allowed for the public to voice their concerns.
Before the council approved the ordinance, they approved the third reading with opposition from councilwoman Suzanna Wilcoxon.
Councilman Ray Saltsman Sr. said he has yet to see the paperwork regarding the survey that Wilcoxon did as to whether town residents are in favor of animals being in town. The survey was available at the April 20 meeting.
Wilcoxon said the final count of the proposed ordinance was 10 in favor and 180 people against it and leaving the county ordinance as is.
A final vote was taken on the ordinance. It passed with opposition from Wilcoxon. Wilcoxon continued to say what she has since the ordinance was introduced and she is against the ordinance.
