Handful of county races opposed for primary

A handful of county races are making for an eventful primary election in Pulaski County.
Republicans are stepping out causing four contested local races including office of auditor, county commissioner District 1, county commissioner District 2, and county council at-large. The office of recorder is also contested but won’t be decided until the general election.
Republicans JoLynn Behny and Laura M. Wheeler have filed for auditor as the term limit for current auditor Shelia K. Garling (D) ends this year.
County commissioner incumbent Terry L. Young (R) is facing a challenge from two other Republicans, Kenneth “Ken” Dunn and Jerome “Jerry” C. Locke for District 1. The race is also being contested by Democrat Derrick Stalbaum, who is unopposed.
Commissioner incumbent Larry L. Brady (R) also faces a challenge from Republican Kenny R. Becker for District 2.
The county council at-large seats will be filled with voters picking the top three candidates of their choice. During the primary elections, voters will have the choice of Republicans Kenneth R. Boswell, John C. Haley, Scott Hinkle, incumbent Jerry “Jay” Sullivan Jr. and Brian M. Young. No democrats filed for the seat of county council as of Friday.
