County prepares for temporary loan to cover bills
News of the county general fund being in the red caused the council to approve a temporary loan during a regular meeting on Monday.
Pulaski County Auditor Shelia Garling said the county general fund is in the negative by $6,462.65. She requested the council approve a temporary loan to cover the debt. She said the loan may be needed but she has until May 31 before she will make that decision.
She requested to borrow $200,000.
“I will only transfer what I need to get me out of the red,” Garling said.
A motion was approved to use a temporary loan.
After the meeting, Garling said the county is just spending more than was drawn from the taxes. She said the budget cut of more than $1.6 million this year didn’t help.
