County council approves to upgrade 911 system

The Pulaski County Council has approved to upgrade the 911 system but it will cost a chunk of change over the next several years.
During a regular meeting Monday evening, the council approved to upgrade the system for the next 20 years with an estimated total cost of $710,000.
Sheriff Jeff Richwine said the county thought they would have to purchase new radios but after some research the radios can be reprogrammed. There will need to be three new dispatch consoles.
An additional appropriation will have to be made to use the 911 funds. County auditor Shelia Garling said there is about $351,000 in that fund as of the end of June.
Richwine said the proposal gives the county all the software upgrades during the 20-year period and fixes any parts that break over the 20-year period. There will be a one-year warranty.
When the contract is started to upgrade the 911 system, the sheriff’s office will owe a little more than $80,000. When the equipment arrives an additional $193,000 will be paid. Payments will be made after that.
A motion was approved for an additional appropriation to be advertised for $80,613.75 to enter a contract for the 911 system upgrade.
