Council approves salary matrix

After months of discussion and crunching numbers, the Pulaski County Council has approved a new salary matrix.
During a joint session on Monday before and after the regular county council meeting, council members again debated whether a salary matrix that includes raises for some employees would work.
At the joint session, auditor Shelia Garling advised the council that they needed to decide the wages of two new jailers, a new sheriff’s deputy with three years of experience, a change in salary for a part-time jailer advancing to full time, a new 911 coordinator, the new building inspector and a new pay rate for the new jail commander who has been working for the department the last seven years.
Starting wages were established for the new employees but some will change as of Feb. 14 when the new matrix is in effect.
Garling suggested that the matrix become effective on Feb. 28. It was decided that the matrix would be effective on Feb. 14.
