Additional sidewalk work to begin in Winamac this spring

Winamac Town Manager Brad Zellers said leftover funding from the recent road project will allow for more work to happen in the spring.
During a regular town council meeting, board members were informed that because the costs of the road and sidewalk work recently completed in town were less than estimated, there is additional funding.
The roadwork project began after Winamac received $146,199.75 in grant funding for a total project of $292,399.50. The work included milling and resurfacing or seal coating about 25 different portions of streets. It also included upgrading 42 sidewalk ramps to be Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant.
Zellers said in the spring, there will be two streets, 15th and Ewing Drive, that are seal coated. Current temperatures haven’t been favorable for the sealing, according to Zellers. Those are the only two roads that were part of the project that are not completed.
The leftover funding will be carried into the next year and Zellers said it can be used for sidewalks or curbs as long as it is used along the roads that were part of the project.
